Which colors go well together on the web and in web design? Which colors are most common in web desigh? Which websites use your favorite color? Search websites by colors!

The most accepted theory on web design colors is that the best color schemes result from combining colors with similar brightness and saturation and most different hue values. Hue values range from 0 to 360 degrees, with 0 and 360 refering to the same color.

When a web color scheme includes two colors, the maximum difference in hue values is achieved by picking colors from the opposite sides of the color wheel. When there are three colors, the maximum hue contrast is acheved if the colors are all separated by 120 degrees, and so on.

Often, only one hue or a set of close hues is used and contrast is achieved by differnt values of brightness and saturation. For example, a combination of light blue and dark blue is common. Blue and red are the most common colors to be seen in web design. The figure on the left shows the frequencies of different hues on web pages. Frequent colors correspond to wider arears and infrequent hues correspond to narrow ones. Green and purple are not commonly used in web design and yellow and orange are moderately used.
